Content Creation and Curation
Content Creation, What Is It?
Content creation is just that. Creating content online for your users to interact with. Online, content is king. Think about it for a moment, why do you follow the accounts that you do? Why do you sign up on the newsletters that you do? Because of their content. You enjoy it, it educates you, and you are excited to see it everyday and you engage with it.
What Is Content Curation Then?
The problem with creating valuable content every day is that…it is hard. It’s hard to create content that is pure gold to your followers every day of the week. You can probably post a couple times a week with purely created content right now. But, you obviously can’t just update your social pages a couple times a week and expect there to be any sort of traction. You need a steady stream of consistent content. There’s situations where this may work but your audience has to know you’re posting on certain days, etc. depending on the platform. You need to be able to keep your audience around and intrigued and engaged by your content.
This is where curation comes in. It might not have been created by you, but it can still be extremely valuable because it still comes from you. This can also build trust with your audience.
You might follow 50 blogs or industry insider newsletters. Then, you can pick out content that you feel would resonate with your users. Give some insights and takeaways from the content and share it. Educate them a little from your perspective. You can’t just copy and paste links, you’ve got to add something for them.
Finding articles on hot topics and news inside your industry are great pieces of content to bring a discussion to your audience. But if you have a physical location, people are sharing images and content right at your door. There’s ways to take advantage of that as well to keep your customers engaged.
